Dancing In The Air – Flying Playshop
Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced Skill Levels
For learning a skill set that is truly “out there”, stunt movement and flying offers air awareness combined with dynamic movement to result in daring possibilities. Elements of high falls, flipping, falling, flying, catching combine with martial arts skills into a performance practice for stage or screen.
As a 15-year high-level gymnastics coach, Jones (Welsh) Talmadge will safely guide the class through basic skill sets of jumping, landing, and spotting. This involves lifting and being lifted on various points of contact, learning how to relax mentally in the air, while being physically engaged and maintaining a connection to the floor through a point of contact to a partner’s skeleton. From a solid movement and safety foundation, more advanced concepts of dancing in the air can be explored: shifting weight and balance to roll from one position to another, intelligent basing, moving into contact, launching and landing, and using fear as a safety indicator.
